The Founding of Pebble Beach
In the early 1900s, a man by the name of Samuel F.B. Morse had a vision. He wanted to create a retreat where wealthy hunters and nature lovers could visit. So, he started looking for ways to develop the land and also built the original Hotel Del Monte.
Additionally, two amateur golfers were involved in the design of Pebble Beach: Jack Neville and Douglas Grant. Their focus was on creating a place where golfers could enjoy the sport in a natural landscape.
In the following years, Pebble Beach became well-known in the golfing community. The first major gold tournament held there was the U.S. Amateur Championship in 1929. Later, in 1947, the Bing Crosby Pro-Am tournament was established, which started attracting both amateur and professional golfers.
Popular Destination in the Golden Age of Golf
Between the 1960s and 1990s, it is known as the “Golden Age of Golf.” Many U.S. Open Championships were held in Pebble Beach, with legendary golfers coming to visit this beautiful area.
Eventually, the Pebble Beach Company was formed in 1977, with the goal of preserving and enhancing the resort.
Pebble Beach Today
The modern Pebble Beach continues to be a thriving destination and golfing legacy, with many significant golf tournaments being held onsite. Over the years, the resort has been renovated and expanded, with new facilities to improve the overall experience. Recent updates include The Spa at Pebble Beach, as well as The Inn at Spanish Bay.
As the community has grown, a priority has been placed on environmental stewardship. Pebble Beach is committed to sustainability and ongoing conservation efforts. The area continues to be a popular destination and offers modern amenities while preserving the natural beauty of the landscape.
